Description
Acalpha Wilkesiana Raggedy Anne is a fast growing hedge with vibrant multi-coloured twsted, coarsely toothed leaves in shades of red, burgundy, copper and pink. Grows to 1 – 2m tall and 1.5m wide. Hardy, tolerates full sun or part shade, drought, wind and salt tolerant. Low maintenance is great for hedging/screening, container or colour contrast.
Care & Maintenance:
Prefers free-draining soil. Regular pruning once or twice annually helps keep the plant compact and well-shaped.
Ideal Uses:
Well suited to hedges, privacy screens, mass plantings, and large pots.
Hardiness:
Handles dry conditions, coastal exposure, and windy sites well.
Climate Sensitivity:
Not frost hardy and should be protected from cold conditions.
Spacing:
For dense hedging, space plants approximately 1 metre apart.
Companion Planting:
Combines well with bold foliage plants such as Cordylines to enhance colour contrast.
Pest Management:
Grasshoppers may be an issue; treat with a molasses-and-water solution or an appropriate pyrethrum spray.
Feeding:
Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring. Supplement with sulphate of potash in spring and autumn to boost leaf colour.
