Description
Pachypodium Fiherense is a bottle shaped Madagascar Palm famous for its swollen trunk and compact shape. Grows to a height of 1-2mts this one frequently branches more than some other forms. Leaves become deciduous off and on throughout the year through seasonal changes or changes in temperatures. Long narrow dark leaves, flowers white. It can retain its leaves more than other varieties. Has spiny branches.

Special Notes: Stock size can change depending on availability and/or new stock levels. Plants can be in leaf or full defoliation depending on current stock available at the nursery. Leaf drop can occur at any time based on the weather/season/temperatures. Root disturbance from posting can cause plants to drop leaves once potted/planted on arrival.
Care & Maintenance:
Prefers free-draining soil to prevent root rot. Water moderately allowing soil to dry out in-between watering and over winter dormancy watering can be ceased all together.
Ideal Position: Full sun is preferred. Can grow in part shade.
Ideal Uses:
Feature/statement plant in a garden. Ideal in pots long term. Garden filler with other plantings of a similar nature.
Hardiness:
Handles dry/arid conditions, heat tolerant, suited coastal/windy sites.
Climate Sensitivity:
Recommend for warm climates. Once established it can tolerate low temperatures if dry.
Companion Planting:
Combines well in various garden placements both in tropical settings and dry/arid settings. Works well with cactus, succulents, agaves and desert roses, however placed in a tropical setting it is also not out of place.
Pest Management:
Relatively hardy but can be susceptible to sap-sucking insects like mealybugs, spider mites and scale. Early detection, physical removal and if necessary systemic insecticides may be necessary.
Feeding:
Slow release fertiliser applied during the growing months of spring, summer and autumn. Refrain from feeding in winter whilst plant is in dormancy.
